About Us

Learn about who we are and why we founded the Salem County Garden Club.

Who We Are

The ladies who founded the Salem County Garden Club are all Salem County natives with green thumbs.  They share a keen appreciation for a well kept garden.

Donna Carr

Donna
President

Donna has fond memories of her grandparent's 98 acre farm in Lower Alloways Creek.  Today, Donna enjoys living in L.A.C. where she continues to expand her perennial garden each year.  She's especially proud of her lima bean garden.  In her little compound the bald eagles fly over daily and the bees live in the milkweed in the back acre.  She believes it's important that we preserve and support the gardens and rural areas of the county for future generations.

Carol Suiter

Carol
Vice President

Carol is a true farmer's daughter having been raised on the farm in Mannington.  Her family kept old traditions, one of which was homemade ice cream on Sundays in summer months.  Carol raises "fair flowers" which are named so because they bloom each year in the first week of August for the annual county fair.  She has a talent for not only growing but also cut flower arrangements.

Kathleen Sweeney

Kathleen

Kathleen has a self-taught green thumb and grows lemons, bananas, and all sorts of produce from her vegetable garden.  She is a naturalist who rallies for our pollinators and promotes natural herbal remedies.

Dottie Murphy

Dottie

Dottie has raised lima beans and blueberries - both a "jersey" tradition.  She has studied horticulture and promotes protecting our environment.  Dottie grows cactus, roses, and both outdoor and indoor plants.
